$50 Fundraising Minimum

What is the $50 fundraising minimum?
All participants 18 years of age and over are required to fundraise a minimum of $50.00. This is in addition to the $50.00 registration fee for those who register by end of day on October 5, 2017 and the $65.00 registration fee for those who registered after. Participants who do not raise the minimum by the collection deadline of November 17, 2017 will not be allowed to participate in future Winter Pineapple Classics.Upon registering, every participant will be emailed a link to their personal fundraising page. Team Captains will be emailed a link to their personal fundraising page as well as their team page. For the purpose of participants reaching the fundraising minimum, all team donations will be considered evenly split amongst all team members, but team fundraising pages will only reflect the intact total. 

Why is there a $50 fundraising minimum?
When LLS was founded in 1949, a blood cancer diagnosis was almost fatal. Most leukemia patients, especially children, died within three months. Even by the mid-1950's, when the first-generation chemotherapy drugs began appearing, the disease remained a stubborn challenge. Thanks in part to innovative research funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), survival rates have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled for blood cancer patients. LLS is a driving force behind breakthroughs in treating blood cancer patients. For these reasons, it is vital for the Winter Pineapple Classic to maximize participant's fundraising efforts.

How does the $50 fundraising minimum work?
All participants who meet the fundraising minimum of $50 by event day will be given a finisher's medal and full hawaiian bbq meal provided by ARISTA Catering. This is in addition to the recovery snack pack provided at the finish line to all participants. 

Note to 2016 participants who DID NOT fundraise the minimum: If you were a participant in the 2016 Winter Pineapple Classic and did not reach your fundraising minimum by the fundraising deadline, you will not be allowed to participate in the 2017 Classic. If you did not meet your fundraising minimum in 2016 and register for the 2017 classic, you will be unregistered, notified you've been unregistered and refunded the registration fee, minus the cost of online processing.

May I use the Winter Pineapple Classic logo for shirts and/or personal flyers?

Do you have tips for using the Participant Center?
Yes, email Winter Pineapple Classic Seattle and we will happily walk you through it.

When is the pledge collection deadline?
November 17, 2017. You can earn great incentives based on the amount you raise.

I'm not comfortable with online fundraising. What can I do?
Paper pledge forms are available for you to use. Your donors can also mail checks to the LLS office (5601 6th Ave S, Suite 182, Seattle, WA 98108). Make sure to put "Winter Pineapple Classic" and your name for proper crediting in the subject line.

How do I handle matching gifts?
Find out if your company will match a gift to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It's a great way to double, triple or even quadruple your donation and impact. Be sure the original donor selects the Washington/Alaska Chapter, and sends the email confirmation to MatchingGifts.PNW@lls.org. Please keep in mind that it is not uncommon for matching gift funds to take 2-3 months to reach our LLS office. We cannot credit fundraising efforts until we have received the money as sent by your company and/or the matching gift company they use.

General Event Questions

What is the registration fee, and when is the deadline?
The registration fee is $50 per person until October 5, and $65 from October 6 until the day of the event. There are no registration refunds. You must register online by October 31, 2017, in order to pick up your race packet before event day. All registrants after October 31 must pick up their packet on race day. You can register at the venue on the day of the event; day of event registration is $65.

How old do you have to be to participate?
All participants must be 8 years of age or older on event day. Exceptions can be made for patients and survivors on a case by case basis. 

How difficult are the obstacles?
The event is geared toward participants 8 years of age and older. Obstacles range in difficulty, but are all safe. If you cannot complete an obstacle, you are welcome to walk around it. 

Will I receive an event T-Shirt?
Yes. All participants receive a tech material, long-sleeve event T-shirt on race day. There will be no size swapping on event day. You can also earn additional incentives by collecting pledges.

Do I need to wear a costume?
Costumes are not required. But, you are more than welcome to join all those that will be in costume! There will be a costume contest at the event where prizes will be awarded.

Day of Event

I have friends that are not participating in the Winter Pineapple Classic, but still want to be involved. How can they help?

How are start times assigned?
Start times are assigned in the order that registrations are received, with preference given to Top Fundraisers of this year's campaign. Approximately 100 participants will be assigned per start time, starting at 9:00 a.m. Start times are spaced 15 minutes apart. They will be posted on the website closer to the event.

Where can I find my start time?

What time should my team arrive?
30-45 minutes prior to your assigned start time. Please take into consideration the time it will take to find parking.

Will I be timed?
Beginning this year, we will not be timing participants. You are welcome to wear a timing device to time yourself.

Is there a bag check area provided?
There will be a free bag check area for personal items. Bags must be small enough to fit in a regular brown paper shopping bag. LLS is not responsible for lost or stolen items. 

Can I wear a baby backpack?
No. Baby backpacks and all other backpacks and carrying cases are not allowed on the course.

Can my family and friends watch and/or photograph me along the course?
No. For safety and liability reasons, we are unable to allow family and friends along the race course.
